Genre films continue to beat down the competition as Warner Bros./New Line Cinema’s video game adaptation of Rampage (read our review) has not only broken the curse, but annihilated the worldwide box office. The Brad Peyton-directed, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson-starrer took the top of the weekend box office with an estimated $34.5M domestic and a ridiculous $114M international for a worldwide total of $148.6M! With Rampage‘s $120M reported budget and marketing spend, it still has quite a ways to go before it can be called a success, but it’s hard to think it won’t find a way as it stomps its way across the globe.
